8 Super-Foods Your Body Will Love

A good balanced diet is very important for overall health. However, there are certain foods that are especially nutritious for optimal oral health. Eating these foods with a good dental hygiene regime will guarantee bright, shiny teeth which reflect a healthy mouth and body.
Various foods have been identified as being especially healthy for your mouth. If you incorporate these foods in your diet you can avoid gum disease and other dental issues.

1. Dairy Products

These include foods like milk, cheese, yogurt, etc. These foods contain protein, calcium, phosphates and vitamin D which are very important for strong teeth.
If you’re lactose-intolerant, there are other alternative sources of calcium like leafy greens, salmon, almonds, etc.

2. Fresh Fruits

Apples and oranges are not only full of different vitamins and minerals important for good health, but also increase saliva production when you chew them. Saliva helps wash away food debris and bacteria to keep your teeth clean. Chewing on high fibre fruits and veggies also help to physically clean the surfaces of teeth.

3. Green and Black Tea

Tea has special compounds that minimize bacteria build-up. Bacterial overgrowth causes problems like gingivitis and dental cavities. Try to include tea after a meal so that bacteria and food are washed away; special compounds in the tea can suppress bacterial growth.

4. Water

Water is essential for good health. Saliva has 99% water. Sufficient water in the diet ensures enough saliva is produced in the mouth. Saliva washes away food debris and bacteria that can cause tooth decay. Bad breath, a symptom of insufficient water intake, also decreases or can be even completely avoided.

5. Onions

Onions contain certain antibacterial compounds that help to keep the bacterial growth in check. Onions can reduce inflammation in the mouth. However, if eating raw onion is not for you, add them to sandwiches or salads.

6. Chocolate

Dark chocolate with at least 70% cacao is considered super-food for dental health. However, it should be eaten in moderation and be sure to brush your teeth later. Dark chocolate has compounds that maintain hard enamel, reduce inflammation and acid production, and prevent cavities.

7. Protein-Rich Foods

Like lean meats, chicken and fish are important component of a healthy diet. These contain elements like zinc, amino acids, etc. All these components are essential for healthy teeth and gums. Fatty fish, like salmon is rich in vitamin D which is very important for absorption of calcium in the body.
Calcium is very important for healthy teeth that are not brittle or easily corroded.

8. Nuts

Nuts are also a great source of important vitamins and minerals like magnesium, folic acid, calcium, zinc, etc.

Include a variety of nuts in your diet to ensure your teeth and gums get sufficient levels of essential vitamins and minerals to maintain optimal oral health.
