Fenugreek tea is obtained from the infusion of fenugreek seeds. These seeds are steeped in water for a very long time, to gain maximum benefits. Fenugreek tea recipe is simple and quick to make:

  • 1 tbsp. fenugreek seeds
  • 1 cup water
Crush the fenugreek seeds and soak them in freshly boiled water. Let the seeds steep in water for at least 3 hours before drinking it. Alternatively, you can also crush the seeds and soak them in water. Allow the infusion to simmer in a pan for some time. Strain the tea and drink it hot or cold. The longer you soak the seeds, the greater the effect. You may also add a spoonful of honey for additional flavor. Fenugreek tea is also available in the form of tea bags, however, the potency of seeds is lost in the processing. Thus, homemade herbal fenugreek tea is the best option of availing its benefits.

  • Fenugreek tends to increase blood loss as it interferes with the blood clotting. Hence, people with blood disorders should stay away from it.
Although, fenugreek tea has quite a number of side effects, there is no need to refrain from drinking it, as side effects are only caused when the quantity of fenugreek seeds exceeds more than 100 gm per day. Else, it can be consumed safely by everyone, except pregnant women and diabetic patients, who may need to consult their physician before opting for fenugreek tea.
While buying fenugreek seeds, it is important to buy them in their most natural form. Powdered or processed fenugreek is not as effective as its natural version. You can buy fenugreek seeds from organic products store or the ones that deal with Indian herbs.
