Liquid Diet Recipes

Liquid Diet Recipes
Liquids are meant to maintain hydration in the body, along with providing necessary electrolytes and energy. It is, however, not a good idea to follow this diet for a long time, as it lacks adequate calories and nutrients, necessary for the proper functioning of the body.

Did you know?
By the time a person feels thirsty, his or her body has lost over 1% of its total water amount.
There are so many reasons why people go for liquid diets. If there is a functional problem in the digestive system and you are experiencing difficulty in digesting solid food, consumption of liquids is recommended. The diet that consists of liquids only (thin and thick), can be considered as a 'weight loss diet'. Generally, a liquid diet is prescribed before or after a surgery. In case of dehydration, it is advisable to incorporate more liquids in the diet. Also, when children refuse to eat regular food items, you can try liquid food, just for a change.
Various Options for a Liquid Diet
Your liquid diet can be made versatile by including various kinds of liquids. Other than water, milk, and clear soups, there are certain options that you may consider.
  • Fruit juices, fruit punches or purees
  • Milkshakes and ice-creams
  • Chicken and vegetable soups
  • Yogurts in various forms
  • Honey-based drinks
  • Lemonade or lime juice
  • Gelatin desserts and jellies
  • Various vegetable juices
You can have fresh fruit juices or milk for breakfast. You can enjoy chicken soup and meat soup for lunch and dinner, along with some vegetable juices. In between, you can drink lemonade or fruit punches with honey. Smooth ice-creams or delicious milk shakes (use skim milk only!) with ice creams can serve as desserts or you can enjoy jellies or yogurts too.
