According to studies, pomegranate is known to be loaded with rich antioxidants, which are more potent than those found in red wine or even green tea. What makes the fruit so special is its content of three types of antioxidants; tannins, anthocyanins and ellagic acid. No wonder, the fruit does immensely well in boosting the immune system. Apart from this, it is also a rich source of folic acid, potassium, niacin, vitamin C, iron, calcium, and fiber.
How Does Pomegranate Benefits You
One of the most effective pomegranate benefits, as mentioned already, is associated with the antioxidant, tannin. It reduces the risk of heart diseases and heart disorders. It also lowers the level of bad cholesterol in the body, and alleviates oxidative stress in arteries. Benefits of pomegranate seed oil for skin is also well-known. The oil bears the property to intensify the rapid production of keratinocyte (major constituent of the epidermis) thus, encourages the regeneration of cells, and helps strengthening the immune system.
The richness of the fruit in vitamin C, E and A, along with calcium, iron, folic acid and potassium, makes its juice one natural and efficient method of skin cell regeneration. Regular intake of the juice enhances the skin's ability to heal faster, and it extends the life cycle of the skin cells thus, improving the skin tone, and delaying aging signs.
When free radicals are produced in the body, they destruct the body cells to attain electrons. Accumulation of such radicals trigger the sebaceous glands to produce more sebum, and due to the over production of this substance, the hair follicles get clogged. As a result, this malfunction is manifested by the flaring up of acne in the skin. Antioxidants neutralize these radicals by giving or accepting electrons thereby, making them stable and helping them exit the body through urination. As pomegranate is an excellent source of antioxidants, as mentioned before, it is definitely an effective treatment for acne, and other types of skin problems.
Risks of impotency and prostate cancer are some of the most common medical problems which men have to confront with. Men suffering from atherosclerosis (narrowing of the arteries triggered by fatty deposits) are more prone to developing impotency. The antioxidants found in pomegranate juice helps in checking arteriosclerosis thus, reducing the risk of impotency.
One major pomegranate benefit for men is obtained when the fruit is used with conventional methods, in the treatment of prostate cancer. This is due to its quality of reducing the levels of prostate specific antigen (PSA). This fact is backed by the clinical trails conducted by Dr. Allan Pantuck and Dr. Arie Belldegrun. According to the National Cancer Institute, pomegranate juice underwent a trial to explore its potential in slowing or reversing increasing PSA levels in men who have already received treatment for localized prostate cancer. In laboratory tests, the juice of the fruit was found to interfere with the growth of cancer cells and its chances of metastasizing. This is because the fruit is rich in phytochemicals. In the trial, the men were given pomegranate juice for up to a year. And when the result came in, it showed that the doubling time of the PSA was delayed and the disease was stabilized, as well.
Most people are also well aware of the benefits of pomegranate for weight loss. The fruit is related with weight loss due to its natural property to cleanse the body, and provide energy to it. Apart from this, the fruit also aids in reducing fatigue, gets rid of toxins from the body, prevents dental plaque, prevents osteoarthritis (chronic breakdown of cartilage in the joints), fights effects of pollution and hypertension.
So this is it for the various health benefits you can enjoy by making the pomegranate an important part of your daily diet. To conclude, it has been researched that women who have this fruit regularly, are less vulnerable to develop breast cancer than those who don't.
