Nature has gifted us with many miraculously blessed herbs with amazing healing properties that have been helping mankind deal with various health conditions and ailments, ginger being one of them! Ginger has been used as an ancient Chinese medicinal herb for more than 2500 years. It has been used to treat various health conditions like nausea, cold and flu, fever, and sore throat. Not only in China, ginger root has been used by many Asian countries including India for the very same purpose. It is a good and healthy practice to have a sip of ginger tea once a day, however, you also need to keep in mind that too much of anything is bad! And this rule applies to ginger tea as well! Why is too much of it bad for you and what are the consequences of consuming too much of ginger tea?
Why Drinking Too Much Ginger Tea is Bad for You
Like too much consumption of anything else, even ginger tea has its own side effects when consumed way too much! Our body has a certain limit to consume everything, be it even water! If you sip in the hot cup of ginger tea way beyond what the body can take, it is obvious that you will face some consequences. Mentioned below are some consequences that you might have to face.
Ginger tea, if consumed too much, can actually lead to heartburn and acidity in a person. This is the reason why people suffering from certain health conditions like stomach ulcers, inflammatory bowel disease, etc., are strictly advised to not consume ginger as it can worsen the situation.
Unsafe During Pregnancy
Now this is a topic of debate. I mean some specialists consider it to be safe to consume ginger during pregnancy while some consider it to be toxic for the unborn baby. Therefore, to be on the safer side, it is better not to consume ginger tea, or too much of ginger in any form during pregnancy. If you do, then please take advice of your health care specialist before going forward as some cases reported ginger to affect the sex hormones of the fetus, and even lead to miscarriage!
Unsafe for Nursing Mothers
Again, just like experts advice to refrain from consuming ginger during pregnancy, they also advice to refrain from consuming ginger tea or any other form of ginger while the mother is breast feeding the baby. You can either check with your herbalist beforehand, or just be safe and not use ginger.
Internal Bleeding
Consumption of excessive ginger tea is also associated with bleeding risks and disorders. Ginger may lead to gastrointestinal bleeding. In fact, studies also show that ginger may lead to coagulation of blood and affect the functioning of the blood platelets in the human body.
Ginger Side Effects with Other Items
Consumption of too much ginger can prove to be extremely harmful to people who have been consuming certain medication and drugs like blood thinners, anti-inflammatory drugs, immune suppressants, beta blockers and so on. In fact, it can also prove to be harmful if consumed when suffering from conditions like bowel diseases, gallbladder problems and also diabetes as it is known to lower the blood sugar levels abnormally.
Complications related to Anesthesia
Studies also reveal that people who have been consuming too much of ginger tea, especially before surgery have chances of suffering from certain complications as the drugs used for anesthesia can have harmful consequences in such cases.
So these were some of the well-known reasons as to why is too much ginger tea bad for you! Though there are many health benefits of ginger tea, one must take the necessary precautions and always consult an expert when it comes to drinking ginger tea. Normally, a healthy person can drink about 1-2 cups of ginger tea, however if you are suffering from certain health conditions like diabetes, heart problems, stomach ulcers, inflammatory bowel disease, pregnancy, etc, then you must first consult a health expert and then consume the ginger tea. To conclude I would like to remind you again, 'too much of anything is bad', so consume everything in a healthy quantity so that you can benefit from its natural qualities.
