An important fact about protein is, it does not get stored in the body, but only gets utilized. So this means that the body requires a regular supply of it, as there is no reservoir for it, unlike in case of fats and carbohydrates. But this does not mean that one has to gulp on high protein food in large quantities. In fact, the body requires a modest amount of it every day to function optimally.
