Most of the diseases we know of stem from the imbalance of pH, or slightly acidic pH to be precise. Here is a pH diet food list to help you maintain your body pH.
pH (potential of Hydrogen) is not just a concept in chemistry. It plays an important role in human body as well. Since, human body system is a storehouse of many chemicals, it is a must that it should be pH balanced at all times. The foods that we eat either produce acids or alkalies, when they enter our body. Hence, foods play a very important role in deciding the pH of body. Acid and alkaline foods have several implications on the body. Let us see how the pH of foods affect our body.
Implications of Food pH
pH is measured on a scale of 0 to 14, with acids falling on the lower end of the scale and alkalies on the higher end. Human body constitutes 70% of water. Water is neutral with a pH of 7. As a result, the body often strives to maintain this pH balance in the body. The blood is slightly alkaline with a pH between 7.35 – 7.45. If the blood pH falls below 6.8 or shoots above 7.8, it indicates an illness. More often than not it is acid producing foods that give rise to many diseases.
Unfortunately, most of our modern diet comprises acid producing foods. Sugar, processed foods, animal protein, all lead to release of acids in the body. Processed foods do not get digested properly, leading to accumulation of toxins in body. This further adds to the level of acids in the body. Acidosis is a disease characterized by very high levels of acids in body. High acid levels make it impossible for the body to absorb nutrients and minerals like sodium, calcium etc. As a result, the body starts extracting these minerals from vitals organs like bones.
Needless to say, this leads to many chronic and degenerative diseases. Acidic pH also encourages the growth of cancerous cells. Similarly, too much of alkaline pH is also detrimental to the body. A pH of 6.8 or less and 7.8 or more, impedes the cell function causing the body to eventually die. Maintaining the desired pH levels often puts a great amount of pressure on your body. Besides, we make the task even more difficult by consuming wrong type of foods. The concept of pH diet is such that you eat right pH foods according to your body’s pH. The following food pH list will help you to understand the ideal foods for your body.
