What Vitamins are Good for Weight Gain

Certain vitamins and supplements can help in a healthy weight gain. Scroll down to know more on these vitamins.

More than half of the population in the world are troubled by obesity and are looking for measures to lose weight. On the contrary, there are many others who have a very low body weight and are looking for measures to gain weight. Eating dairy foods, fatty foods and sweets are the easiest and the quickest ways of gaining weight. However, these are not healthy and can increase the cholesterol levels, which is not good for the heart. So, what is the best way to gain weight? Are vitamins beneficial for gaining weight? Let us find answers to all these questions below.

Weight Gain and Vitamins

In order to gain weight the healthy way, you should follow a proper diet, which consists of all essential nutrients. In most of the cases, very low body weight is caused due to malnutrition or improper diet. Therefore, the first and the foremost thing to remember is that if one wishes to gain weight, he/she should have a square meal, which consists of carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals, etc.

Secondly, one should make proper choices regarding food. Food should be high in calories and those that give energy. For e.g., snacking on popcorn will never help in gaining weight. However, if one substitutes it with nuts or cut fruits, it can be a healthy snack and will also help in gaining weight.

Similarly, another important thing to remember is to consume higher number of calories than those burned. However, in some cases, it is found that apart from improper diet, several other factors are also responsible for not gaining weight. For e.g., if a person has an overactive metabolism, he will fail to gain healthy weight. Therefore, in these cases, making changes in the diet alone will not help in weight gain. In those cases, along with the diet, taking certain supplements like vitamin supplements can aid in gaining weight quickly.

Vitamins to Gain Weight

People not wishing to gain weight often complain that taking vitamin and other supplements leads to weight gain as a side effect. Therefore, it has been proven that having vitamin supplements can increase weight. Vitamin C is particularly associated with weight gain as it slows down the process of metabolism. Therefore, people who have issues regarding metabolism, can have supplements rich in vitamin C. Secondly, vitamin D is also helpful for a healthy weight gain in people. Vitamin D is essential for a healthy bone growth and hence having these supplements can be beneficial for gaining weight.

On the other hand, if you wish to gain weight in order to have a healthy pregnancy, then you should go for prenatal vitamins. These vitamins are meant to maintain a proper health during pregnancy. Having prenatal vitamins before and during pregnancy will help in reducing the risk of having a baby with a very low body weight. However, it should be noted that taking prenatal vitamins to gain weight is only effective if taken while you are pregnant. Similarly, multivitamins may cause weight gain in some people. However, the issue is still debated.

Also remember that, it is wise to consult the doctor before taking vitamin or any other supplements. Although vitamin C is beneficial in gaining weight, an overdose of it can lead to side effects like diarrhea, etc. Therefore, it is wise to know the exact dosage of vitamins and follow it accordingly. At the same time, you should continue to follow a healthy diet and exercise routine. Take care!
